Despite telegraphic warnings from Cuba, the hubris of the U.S. Weather Bureau ignored information from what it considered to be unreliable sources. As such, there was no evacuation and two thirds of the city was devastated. Erik Larson's well-written and researched book, Isaac's Storm, gives the account. There was no happy ending. Fortunately in today's world, we do have adequate warning to prevent such massive losses of life. I hope it's not as bad as it could be. Gil
