Very interesting. Reminds me of the pictures I have seen, and articles about the Afghans. I remember an article in an old Gun Digest, IIRC, titled People Of The Gun.

Thanks, SRH

This stuff goes on all over the world. Handmade guns are the province of the super-rich in the industrialized world. In the poorest parts, they are the province of the not-so-poor.

Amazing what one can do with simple tools. That's impressive. It also illustrates the futility of gun control. They could even make a semi-auto pistol!

Many years ago, to prove the futility of gun control, a couple guys decided to build a revolver in their well l basement machine shop. I think they had a Atlas 6" or 10" metal lathe as their most complex machine. They made and test fired a revolver in some ungodly caliber like Weatherby 338 or 378. They did it and it passed test firing. Their point was that if a hobby home shop, with a non trained persons, could make from scratch a gun like that it was pointless to think any amount of gun regulation would or could end guns. Then they destroyed the gun.

Percussion musket/shotgun was one gun that they made.
The women made the powder & with the reference to saltpeter & sulpher, that would be black powder.
No mention of the caps.
Surely they must make those as well.

right - the locals in the Khyber Pass and Afghanistan have copied British and then Soviet guns- i remember an article back in the days the Russians were there where a guy made so close a copy that he even reproduced the serial number -

There are working 1911's brought home as souvenirs that were made by the Viet Cong with hand tools

The British supplied the plans for the STEN to the resistance so they could be made in bicycle shops

i am sure some blacksmith in an area ruled by Rome 2000 years ago made copies of the gladius
