The stud in front of the screw is just that, a stud to keep things lined up and relieve the screw behind it from doing all the work. The boss between the top tang and and trigger plate is threaded for the through bolt.
That is wonderful rifle and I tried to trade for it before it went to Julia's. The owner was a very well known author who had an unrealistic idea of value on it. He felt it would hammer over 40K, sold for upper teens. I offered him more than it sold for.
