Thanks for all the information. I just found out there may be a problem with the trip since my son just took a new job. It may be a last minute thing depending on his schedule.

I also am comcerned with overdoing it with my dog. She is young and in good shape but I remember what both of us were like after 5 days of hunting in South Dakota last year. If this trip comes together it may be best to do only a couple days of flat land hunting before heading to SD.

You might try this Montana lodge if your wife prefers such accommodations. http://www.pigeye.com/contact.htm They have operated in central Montana for several years. They are far enough west in Montana that their operation may not be too affected by drought this season.

Blue grouse in October can be difficult as the birds often go high into the trees after hard frosts kill hoppers on the ground. Must easier to find birds in Sept. on the ground around the edge of mountain parks.
