Since we've drifted off the original topic, how many of you have hunted bullfrogs with a .22 at night? I grew up going with men who gigged them, but I always found that way of collecting them distasteful.
We would go with a partner. One was the paddler and handled the light, the other was the designated shooter. They sit just out of the water, on the bank, and facing the water. That white throat area is very visible when the light is on them, and you can hold the crosshairs on them, squeeze off a round, and the frog just flops backwards on the bank motionless.
My wife loved to go with me back then and got to be a deadly shot with that Apache Black and a little 4 power scope. She once took 13 frogs with 14 rounds. Not bad for sitting in a boat shooting.
Not much better eating than fried bullfrog legs.
