Grey squirrel is my absolute most favorite game to eat, bar none. Quail and Grouse are delicious but I think squirrel is even better. A short story re eating squirrel: I have an Arab acquaintance who is a rug dealer and he brought some Oriental rugs to my home to look at and possibly to buy one evening. Prior to him coming I told him we would grill out some steaks. Well, I hunted that morning and with good fortune had this mess of greys instead. My Arab friend was very shocked and reluctant to dine on squirrel and was very disappointed that I changed my mind on the black angus New York strips. Well, I fried and simmered these squirrels in a very old and well seasoned iron skillet. Made some squirrel gravy, biscuits and some mashed potatoes along with some juicy, August Indiana summer tomatoes......to make a long story shorter, my Arab friend went back for THIRDS! :-). Those squirrels were delicious, and probably the best batch I've ever made. Yum, I'm looking forward to squirrel season in August.
