Any water displacing oil should work, as long as it doesn't contain Silicone. That's why used motor oil cut 50/50 with kerosine works, the Silicone is burned out of it.

I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.
