What do we have up to now:
4 different guns of English/Austrian/German-Suhl/Belgian origin.
The smallest common denominator is that ALL of them emerged in US,
possibly in the 60's/70's went-through/landed on some bench
and got this stamp/mark.
Then, who may have had this initials W J N ? (as it may not be
a compulsory US mark )
Cheers

I wonder if the cat worked @ Kerr's(Kerr Sport Shop of 9584 Wilshire Boulevard in Beverly Hills founded by Alexander H. Kerr in the 1930s). Anyone concur that the "Kerr's„(note upper & lower ") on the side of the 1965 Belgium Browning O/U is the same as Kerr Sports Shop?

Karl Gründig from earlier post with the monogram paired w/ an eight.

That could be a lead. There's also a WJN Firearms business located in the state of PA that looks to be a long established operation.

.776 is near nominal 10 gauge.

Cannot be continental European. Any mark would be metric. I vote for a conscientious US gunsmith.

Gents,
Thank you all for your active contribution, a job well done.
This a.m. WJN business was founded in 1908, thus does not apply.
There a more WJN businesses , in finance, construction,..
I followed the KERR lead in several posts and this seems to be the one which could fit.
Though I dont have final conclusion here is my theory.
Kerr founded his company in 1936, has been a top-notch-skeet-shoot, naval gunnery trainer.
He drove a white Rolls,
his shop has been a fixture for the Hollywood-extravaganza,
THE hunting/fishing/outdoor shop on the westcoast,
Elvis has been shopping there.
He simply had the affluent customer-base living before his shopfront.
The 4 used guns in this thread all came from different countries.
Can you imagine the worst case scenareo of a gun failing
in the hands at one of these customer-stars.
I believe this mark was simply an acceptance/reliability
mark of the Kerr gunsmith-workshop before releasing it to
the salesman/frontoffice.
The question of the meaning of this WJN is still open.
I understand from a post that the Kerr-family does not answer
enquiries re guns.
The answer re this WJN letters may come if one of the shop-
visitors remembers what it meant. I will try to pursue this
trail or any faster approach by the US-BBS-community will be appreciated.
...
The car-name Mercedes is derived from the name of the
founders daughter, an Austrian provincial gunsmith adopted
his grandfathers name for his shop.
There are ample explanations for this initials .
...
I spoke with the mother of the present Springer owner/manager
and she remembered the Kerr-name well. She owned/run the
company in the 60'/70's/further on.

Lovely sleuthing there Neuberger. From a blanket search, it would appear that our Researcher might know the mechanic if indeed the mechanic was at Kerr's:

I think that's Bill Nittler's mark.
He was the only one over here Purdey's would let inside their barrels for a long time.

Well, his middle initial is J? So you may have struck the jackpot?
