I need some help. I am trying to determine what muzzle diameter certain #1's have because I am looking at obtaining one for a rebore to a larger caliber. (.500 S&W)
anyone with a #1 in 45-70, 375 H&H, 458 WIN MAG, or other caliber in a fairly heavy barrel with sights. pleas measure the muzzle diameter, (not around sight band) and let me know your findings.

If you want one with a really large diameter barrel, Brian, look at the #1V models. I have a 7mm Rem Mag #1V and the barrel is very heavy, albeit without sights. I also have a .45-70 #1, but you already have a measurement on it.

It might be a good idea to pick one that's chambered in something that has a small enough rim on it so that the barrel doesn't have to be set back to rechamber. On the muzzle end, it's likely that an undersized barrel will have enough thickness for the barrel smith if it's shortened a bit due to the taper. Maybe, it'll open more rifles to consider.
