Just talked to a friend of mine and he had two guns listed at Julias that did not sell.

From the prices i've seen, english shotguns were soft and most of the italian guns were as well. The Woodward 20 bore o/u sold for 37K. Boss o/u 12 sold for 25K.

On a related note: the Gavin Gardiner auction in London wasn't too hot either. The highest price realized there was L14K for a tired pair of H&H royals.

I thought the Boss 20 would bring more, but I guess it didn't have enough original finish/condition to pop. Also, the 26" bbls and the odd proof marks were issues.

Nice gun, felt great, super rare with that trigger. But the serious, deep pocket collectors wouldn't touch it.

That nice 20g Purdey did well.

I would like to hear a description of the guns that didn't sell for our poster, item numbers especially. High end guns have to be absolutely right to sell for highest prices. Lesser guns should be held by the owners or sold on different venues.

Google.

Make it your friend, my friend.

Try "Julia Auction Boss 20 sidelock", etc.

I can't see what the Boss 20 bore high bid was. I shot the gun. It was nice and I encouraged him not to sell. Based on what other Boss 20 bores are asking for I would have thought it was a deal.

According to Invaluable.com the Boss 20 bore lot 1337 was "sold" at $25,000. With Palunc's info we know that bid did not reach the reserve. I like invaluable, but they do not always know the reserve price, and you are left wondering whether the price listed resulted in a sale or not. They are often correcting their results a few days later.

Generally, I was amazed at the number of guns with 26" barrels. It seemed like 75% of the nicer doubles had short barrels. I personally don't like the handling dynamics of guns <28". I have one 26 1/4" gun and I am about to sell it for that reason. I looked at each gun in the auction, but none fit my desired criteria, many of them knocked out due to barrel length.
