The first reason is I looked for an area on this site where I can do an introduction. When I hit "search" the system kicks me off. So I hope it's ok to start here in the General Discussion area.
My name is Rick AKA "Ricky2Guns".
I recently picked up a Coach Gun that was sold to me by a Gun Smith at a local Gun Shop. He sold it to me under the impression it was a 1894 Remington SXS 12Ga. I love the Gun but there's some conflict with that description. I'll premise this with I don't have history with "Civilian" Guns.
Here's what my research tells me.
* 1894 and 1900 models share “ PAT OCT 30th 94” (Mine has this)
* 1900’s have snap on forearms (Mine has this)
* All 1900’s are “K” grade
* “K” Grades have steel barrels
* Serials numbers are in the 300,000 range (My# is 357XXX)
* 1900’s serial numbers are preceded with a “Q” (Mine has this)
[b]* 1900’s produced between 1900-1910
But with all signs leading to my gun being a 1900 model, the water table is stamped 1894? Also my Barrel is marked KA1 on both sides where it connects to the receiver. My research says it should have either K,KE,KED.
I greatly appreciate any deciphering. I went to a gun show today and the "Knowledgeable" couldn't answer why. At this point I won't even ask about the W,P,K,4,6 and other marking mean. I did find out that the anchor was a final inspection.
In the end I just wanted to confirm Year & Model.

Welcome to the forum! I'm not overly knowledgeable about Remingtons, but I'm sure another member will be along shortly. And because I know they will ask, do you have any pictures, particularly of the barrel flats and the water table? That's the flat sections of the barrels and action where they join.

you could also try 'The Remington Society of America'....sounds like a 1900 to me and most Gun Dealers don't have any idea about older guns........hell most don't know about modern guns.....the good ones will at least tell you that....

On that last Picture you can see someone apparently removed the Bluing? I like the tri-color but I guess I'll be expecting rust.
BTW, Thanks for the welcome. Once I get proficient in these Guns I plan to join the CASS out of FT. Bliss Texas Rod and Gun Club.

you need to have a gunsmith who knows double guns examine the bores to make sure that the former owner didn't remove a lot of barrel metal from the bores in order to get the gun "ready to sell." Sometimes nice shiny bores are shiny and nice because someone has honed away a lot of rust and pitting and left the barrels too thin to handle modern ammunition (and sometimes even the original blackpowder ammo, too).
Any gunsmith with the tools to measure the ID of the bores and the reference books to show him what the minimum amount of barrel thickness is needed to be safe can let you know if you should be shooting this gun.

Mike, I've already fired 11buckshots, and about 4 slugs. She kicks like a freaking Mule. So I decided to get the "AA" ammo that CASS uses. Hopefully that will reduce the shoulder and knuckle soreness, lol.
