As a 27 year Army officer returning from Viet Nam in early 1972, I would have to echo eightbore's sentiments. I wore my greens with combat patch and CIB all over the US from then until 1991 and never heard a cross word. In fact it was always the other end of the scale. I'm glad it turned out that way because my tolerance for anything else would have been pretty low.

King I would think that those two brave Canadian soldiers are right. I have no regrets about my combat tour and in fact have never felt as "alive" since. I'm sure I'm not making my self clear here but there is an excitement and joie de vivre that only one who has been in close combat can appreciate. Not all who have the experience appreciate it and no moral or character judgements should be made either way. Its just the way it is.

And I just called today and renewed my DGJ subscription for three more years!

Many many thanks. I'm a little embarrassed at the words. This old Iowa farm boy has enjoyed every second of serving for Uncle Sam. I've seen and done things that I could have only dreamed of 20 plus years ago when I first joined.

As for this tour, the HQ guys gave me a big gift by sending me to the UAE. You'll never hear me complain about this place, other then the odd one about missing Texas quail season with my sons.

To all that came before us, many thanks to you too. Because of your words and deeds, we have a proud heritage to maintain. We'll never let you down.
