Thanks. I have a 90s 870 that I use with steel but it has quite a long forcing cone so that was what brought the question up. For years I shot BB steel through an old Stevens, before I even knew enough to be concerned. It was IC and MOD but I'm sure it had short cones as well.

I'm quite fond of 3 steel, I've even taken quite a few geese with 3s over decoys. More pellets for head, neck and wing hits.
