Ken do you think the used motor oil or a mild sulfuric acid
solution will give good results on a polished or freshly
sanded reciever.Or is re-casehardening my only option.

thanks for the info so far.

JIC anyone gets curious, phosphoric acid can be any one of three similar acids of phosphorus, sorta first cousins, if you will.

Mr. Ken & any other interested parties ..

You may wish to accummulate a reserve supply of 'dirty diesel' now, because low sulphur or no sulphur diesel is already on the horizon. I would think that any municipality running buses would be an ideal donor candidate for REALLY dirty diesel, since many of them spew a visible trail of jet black particulate matter due to having their mixtures neglected, forever. Nothing like inner city driving for acid buildup ;-)

Go out and buy the cheap cutting oil used for pipe threading.

If it is the sulphur you want, get a cloths pin for your nose because cutting oil is high in sulphur.

Did I mention, it's cheap? It comes in one, five and 55 gallon drums.

Dave1 ---- doesn't matter. The old oil and sulferic acid therein will darken both. Just takes longer on a cased action. ken

TW --- good idea, thanks for the idea. Ken
