This is a fun post. Take a look at the following two listings:

#1: Lewis Drake Boss O/U

#2: Schwandt Arms (Click on O/U, then Boss O/U)

The S/N matches, so this must be the same gun. My conjecture is that Schwandt's consignor purchased from Drake and now doesn't want the gun! Other theories, comments?

One theory is that Schwandt traded into it.

Questions like this only need a phone call if you are interested in the gun in question. Most dealers will tell you if the gun is on consignment or one they traded for or bought outright.

That gun as been listed on Schwandt's site for a long time, at least 2 years.

It has not been listed on Drake's site until recently so this is strange.

DLH, I noticed the same thing. Also, Schwandt has recently dropped the asking price about $3k after steadfastly holding to 72,900 for the entire 2 years.

When I go to the Lewis Drake web site it indicates that it has not been updated (for shotguns) since September of 2016. Are they still an active company or ?????

I'd bet someone's website is out of date.
I am in possession of a gun (last time I looked in the safe) that is currently listed on a website as for sale and has been for many months. (Interestingly for more than I paid for it but that's another story).

Gun traders are not topnotch website workers. smile

I know of one dealer who would not update his site to remove sold guns because he felt it gave him a chance to sell another gun when you called about one already gone. Not saying that's the case here. Perhaps they just don't update often because they don't want to pay extra for frequent IT services. Perhaps only updating sold items once a quarter but adding new items once a month. Seems silly but money if you can't do it in house you have to pay for others to do it for you.

JLB, The site has been updated multiple times since Sept. He routinely marks guns "sold" and moves them to the lower section of each category list. Also, guns have been added since Sept, 2016. Sometimes, he changes the asking prices, too (as in the case of this Boss). Maybe the Sept. 2016 reference is the most recent change to the basic HTML template, not its content.

Please look under the word home on the Lewis Drake Web site and see if something other than 9/28/2016 comes up. Perhaps my computer has found a worm hole to the past. If so will trade computer for a rising bite O/U.

I recently talked to the owner of a Parker which he had consigned to one of the premier gun sites. I asked him if he would entertain an offer. He said "of course, but go thru the dealer".

When I asked the dealer if he would entertain an offer, he said "The gun has been sold for full price". Good for my friend, I thought. That was a month ago. The site has been updated, and the gun is still listed.

JLB, I have your rising bite O/U for you, it's in the mail! Tudurgs, I hope your friend has gotten his money. I consigned a gun to a dealer once and it disappeared from gunsinternational in January, but it was not until I chased the dealer down in April that I got my check!

Follow up on this gun: I saw the gun in the flesh at the Southern. It was actually nicer in hand than on the website. I planned to inquire about its provenance, however Mr. Schwandt was busy with customers and I didn’t want to disturb him when I arrived at his stand. I did, however, notice a small sign in the case “Gun Show Special $49,900.”

Looked at the gunbook notes on, I believe, the Drake site, and noted that they list the original barrels as 2-5/8" chambers whereas the advertising copy has them at 2-3/4". Something for a potential buyer to double check....

You must have found an old website. I googled them and found a current listing. Most of the guns are marked SOLD so maybe they aren't' as active as they once were.

In the past I have seen up to 3 dealers advertising the same gun so it does happen.

However if I was seriously interested in a gun that was for sale this is the last place I would mention it. Great way to get it bought from under you.

I saw a pair of Atkins listed twice a few weeks ago. Both on reputable dealers sites.
