You have to really hate ducks to spend this much money to shoot them.

I have to disagree with you guys about 16ga. I love a 16 for upland shooting. I don't think any gun puts a 1 oz load down range better and really like a 1 oz load for birds. But ducks are tough. The 12ga does a lot better job. Wounding an animal so that it dies at a later date is cruel.

Pooch, I agree with you. I love the 16 for general upland hunting, but I grab a 12 when I go duck hunting.

Me, too. The only exception I might would make in favor of a 16 or 20 is the early teal season, in which you can shoot nothing else except maybe a woodie in states where an early woodie season overlaps the teal season in September. I was shooting beside a gentleman, and I mean gentleman in every sense of the word, in a duck blind on Reelfoot Lake last September. We were gunning teal ..... blue wings. He was using a 20 and he did just as good a job, if not better, on them than any man there using a 12. No crippling problems, and the 20 was very quick for those little darting, jiving blues.

I have used a 16 successfully in the wooded bottoms on wood ducks and teal early in the season. It did handle the quick through the trees shooting nicely with the trimmer gun.

Any game bird or fowl that is small enough that I can eat three of them whole, off the grill, can be taken handily with a sub gauge gun. wink

I'd better go to work, I'm making myself hungry for some more teal.

Hey:). That "ignore this user" function really works well. I can just wipe out those that know everything and make sure we all know it.

Teal and wood ducks are a little softer and the teal are fast and quick requiring a lighter quick moving gun. But down here in Texas it's still warm and we have snakes galore in early Teal season so I don't go. Wood duck are just too cute for me to shoot and their mate seems to miss the killed duck so.

It's hard being a real hunter when down inside I'm a wimp.

Wood ducks and teal are such tasty birds that I never pass them by. Both can dip, dive and change directions so fast that they seem to be able to dodge shot at will. And more than one time I have killed the teal behind the one I was shooting at. Humbling they can be but rewarding as well. Where I shoot woo ducks a 16 would be perfect. Longest shot within 20 yards with small windows between trees to make them fast shooting targets.

Teal are fun but they are quick crafty little bastards. I've shot more air then Teal. I feel any Teal I've killed I earned.

Pooch,
Since I shoot lightweight 12's with 1oz. loads for most of my upland hunting, I believe it patterns well also. I've found that stepping down from the traditional shot weight works wonders.
