I don't know what's "ideal", but in my experience 50% is good enough. When my gunroom hits 65%, I begin to get nervous and crank up the dehumidifier, even at the expense of more heat. I handle my guns a lot and I'm not especially anal bout wiping them down, but with a target of <65% I've only encountered rust a handful of times in 25 years.
