I recently picked up some 300 grain .458 diameter Barnes TSX as a way to make a 45-70 usable for a whitetail spot I have that's gone to lead-free ammo. Anybody ever used a mono bullet for BPE? I have a Mortimer 450 3 1/4 w/ 30 inch Damascus barrels that loves 350's in both lead and jacketed bullets. My pressures are low, as I'm pushing about 1650 - 1700 FPS with them as to not stress the metal too much. Just curious if the copper bullets would create enough of a pressure increase to make the experiment worth the bother or not?

I have the same problem with my drillings, couple of suggestions to me, paper patch a smaller size bullet or find a MZL sabot and adapt a pistol bullet to use in your rifle.

Oh well, I'll just use them in the 45-70 and use the BPE's where I can hunt with lead. I must have missed in the Wright book.

A friend blew the barrel of his Rigby .470 on a buffalo hunt using monometal bullets, and a six inch piece nearly took out the guy standing next to him. Best avoided in old guns.

I use those bullets in my martini, but it has a larger bore. I cheat on my "patch" and use teflon pipe tape. It is unconventional, but easy and the old martini shoots them as accurately as my eyes can see at 50 yards. Actually better than some heavier lead 460 grain bullets that are the "correct size. for my gun
