In half a century of all-weather, full-season Minnesota duck hunting, you do a lot of things as a consequence of mishaps...and not the kind of things that get written up in the romantic waterfowling tales!

The 'Remington 1100 paddle' episode happened when my father-in-law got his push-pole stuck in the muck and didn't let go. He pulled himself backward and overboard as the duck boat coasted onward, and my gunstock was the most immediately available means of propulsion for his rescue.

Note: please don't try this in home waters with your Parker...
