Some are and some are not. There are some great individual makers in Spain that fall out of the normal bigger names mentioned by Terry Wieland in his excellent book.

Yes Greg, by now all know you have your favorite makers and Zabala Hermanos (ZH) is not one of them. That bias tends to blind you to the quality that can be found in ZH guns. ZH did, usually, make guns with appropriately sized actions just as all the other makers did. About five years ago I bought three ZH box lock guns; a 20 gauge, a 28 gauge, and a .410. All SxS, SST, choke tubes. All three sized correctly for the shell for which they were chambered.

A few years before that I had bought A ZH side lock in 20 gauge, that had a second barrel in 28 gauge. The action on that gun was appropriate for a 20 gauge and the 28 gauge barrel was oversize to fit the 20 gauge frame.

Bottom line is that all the artisanal (which, for Greg’s edification, is defined by the Cambridge dictionary as, “made in a traditional way by someone who is skilled with their hands”) shotguns are made with appropriately sized frames unless the customer specifies otherwise.

Also for Greg, as he likes the phrase “best gun”, here is one of the better definitions of that phrase:

“Best Gun - A pompous English term for a gun that must have several specific details. To qualify for the title, it must have a Sidelock action with Intercepting Sears, have Chopper Lump Barrels, be Stocked to the Fences and have its lumps concealed by its floorplate. While almost any respectable gunmaker can accomplish these requirements, the implication, of course, is that it is also built to the highest standard of quality.”

Sounds like you bought one of the ZH made imports made for AA, Tristar or BSA, here's an example

https://www.gunsamerica.com/956971846/TRI-STAR-BRITTANY-CLASSIC-II-28GA-SXS.htm

Does it look like the frame is gauge specific to you? Not to me, but what do I know.

As to being blind....look in the mirror.

I know you got the definition for a Best Gun from Hallowell & Co, but you had to change pretentious to pompous. Seems like your being a bit pompous, especially when it comes to ALL Spanish makers.

I'm done with this.

I just wish I knew a little more about the Spanish gun industry but I have at least a dozen books on the English gun industry and seemingly know very little about it.

But, back on topic.
