Such great stories, Tim. Thank you very much. As was mentioned in another thread, our equivalence in the South is the dove season opener, but there are few that have the history that your shoot does. And, history is so important.

The camaderie cannot be overstated. We have dove suppers throughout the year, and enjoy the birds we took during the season. This allows us to continue the fellowship that we have during the season, at the shoots, by cooking and enjoying meals together. This is priceless, and ensures that the birds taken will be enjoyed.

The pictures are wonderful. Thank you.

All my best, SRH

May God bless America and those who defend her.

I love the history and traditions of English shooting. Thank you very much for the posts. It is very satisfying to weave history, tradition, like-mindedness, family, the outdoors, dog-work, hospitality, testing shots, and fine guns together in one endeavor.

We are naturally envious that we do not have this same tradition in the US. As others have stated, the dove shoot is probably the closest analogue. Some may also mention a Pheasant Group in the Dakotas, but of course this is walked-up hunting as you call it and although some of the elements mentioned above are present, it is not exactly the same. We enjoy these posts on some of the intangibles of our sport and welcome the opportunity to learn more of your shooting traditions as it is in sharing these sentiments and stories that we arrive at a greater appreciation and mutual admiration and perhaps in so doing perpetuate the sport we love for future generations.
