I only did a limited amount of Duck hunting, but what I did was all done with a double, I never felt handicapped by it. I used an FE Lefever & yes I went under water once with it in my hands. I just brought it home, took it apart & cleaned, dried & re-oiled it, good as it was before.
Nash Buckingham hunted Ducks with a Double, good enough recommendation for me.
I simply have no desire what-so-ever to own either a pump or a semi-auto. "IF" I hunt it I'll hunt it with a double, & it'll be a side by side, not one of those stinking under-overs. Anyone who doesn't want to hunt with me because I'm using a double can Stay Home, Nuff Said.
