I kinda thought that was what was at the bottom of all this. I hope the good memories someday outweigh all the bad for you.

It's crazy I know. It's a love hate thing. Wet dog farts not good. The sound of wings just before day light, wonderful.

I'm 65, and to me it's still worth the dog farts, the vet bills, the cold and rain, the mud, the beaver chewed punji sticks, the 10 hour drives, the hours of scouting duck holes, the reloading bismuth, the cantankerous outboard motors, the greasy breakfasts, the floating your hat when you step in a gator hole ......all that and more. 'Cause when my grandson texts me and says "Papa, can we hunt ducks Saturday?", or "Papa, are we going back to Arkansas while I'm out of school for Christmas?", all that other trivial stuff is forgotten. When you still have trouble getting to sleep on the night before the season comes in, those things ain't burdens.

As Jeremiah Johnson replied when Griz asked him "Were it worth the trouble?" ................ said Jeremiah ...."Ah, what trouble?"

I'm 78 and can't walk. There is talk of a hip replacement if my heart can take it. But I'm mentally ready for a new hip regardless. My dekes are G&H mags with swivel heads. They are just beautiful I hate to part with them. But with the weights they are so heavy. I used to have nearly 200 dekes but I'm now down to 25.

Ducks and geese will turn into the wind and look straight ahead if they are nervous and getting ready to fly. It is easy to see this with geese because you can see then walk but harder with ducks because their feet are under water. Since the dekes are going to stream line into the wind, if the dekes all have forward pointing heads the spread looks like nervous ducks ready to fly. Smart ducks are going to "wave off" and not land. That's why I'm a big fan of swivel heads on dekes so you can turn some of the heads to make the spread look more settled.

Canvas back is one of our posters here. Makes me think of the Canvas Back duck. We don't get a lot of Canvas Backs in this part of the country. I always chuckle when I see the name because they are another duck I won't shoot because they are so much fun to watch. They are so fast and their butts get up in the air when they are really rolling. They are real characters. First time I saw a Canvas Back I thought I was seeing a jet propelled duck.
