Hello everyone

I am looking for info on Edwinson C. Green and potential value. Its a 16 gauge with rebounding hammers, I dated the gun but now can t remember I think it was late 1870's early 1880's. Everything including the case appears to be in original condition, whether the case is original to the gun is another matter, indicating this gun was not used very much. As you well know gun in hand is the only way to know for sure of condition, and the condition of the gun is not in question. I have not had any exposure to Green and do not know where in the big scheme of things does he fall into. The gun is of definite higher quality and is a beautiful piece again in my opinion. I initially assumed a W. & C. Scott action but given the age I'm not sure about that, I am sure there are some guru's on this forum who will know immediately.

Please keep in mind the colour brightness in these pics is much brighter than actual.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Sean

Do you mean Edwin C Green? Later known as Edwinson. If so see my posting here: http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbt...true#Post456994

Lewis Potter, a very well respected gun smith and author from Evesham is the custodian of the remaining E C Green records. If anyone with queries would like to PM me with an e-mail address I am happy to pass it on.

tiger, I'm going to offer some observations based on the photos. Please understand that I'm well aware that photos and gun in hand are different.

The deal case does not go with a gun of this quality. The case appears to me to be relined. The finish on the barrels and on the stock and action don't seem to really go together. I suspect the action has been refinished recently, as has the stock.

Green has Brand Value three (BV3). The Original Quality grade looks like "A" grade; maybe OQ4. I'm going to speculate Current Condition level at five (CC5 = Minor repairs needed or proper restoration accomplished).

BV3-OQ4-CC5 = $2,400. You might bump that 25% for 16 gauge, maybe.

Unfortunately, I do not have enough comparables to claim a high level of accuracy. Please let me know if you disagree with the above. Anyone have comparable guns with known sale prices?

Thanks rocket

I appreciate the comments. As I wondered about the case myself. One would expect a gun of that quality to be in a much better case. The lining has been repaired in places but appears to be of original material. The photos make it look better and brighter than in real life.

As far as the gun itself goes, I am very familiar with restoring and restored firearms, including case colouring and all the metal finishes, I can assure you that this gun, is in original condition. Again The picture s may actually make it look better than it is, I mean brighter anyways.

My immediate reaction as well was that the stock and action have been refinished. Just something about the combination that doesn't seem to go together for the gun. But I'm no expert and could very well be wrong. It is a nice gun though.
Part of my reasoning comes from an old English double barrel muzzleloader I bought a few years back. It is in exceptional condition which casused me to believe it had been restored at some point, although I don't know why someone would spend the money on it for a restoration. Anyhow, another area that had me thinking that it had been restored is because the locks have some of the same bright blue that your gun has. I figured someone had attempted a recoloring but maybe I was wrong after looking at your gun.
