Many years ago, probably 40 or more, Leupold was trimming there line & discontinued a lot of their reticle choices. Apparently Herter's bought a bunch of them & offered them in their catalog at drastically reduced prices. I picked up an M8-3X with a pointed post reticle at about a third of what they were selling for.
Still have it & it still fits the bill for a "Woods" scope for Deer. They are of course no longer available but something similar should work real nice on a .444.
You can still have that type of reticle. It is triangle post and made by Trijicon in their Accupoint line. If I wanted top of the line shotgun, DG or running game scope I would swallow the hight cost and get 1-6x24mm one. I do not remember which is best color for human eye to see under different background conditions red, amber or green. I do think guys on 24Hour told me green would be best overall. I do not remember for sure.
