Thanks for the thread. I had read through most of the historical stuff before. I corresponded with Dietrich Apel a couple of years ago and he asked for pictures of the gun. After reviewing them, he said I had a very rare example of an Ernst Schlegelmilch sxs with a patented schlegelmilch latch/safety/spring? He said I probably have the only one in the states.
It's a nice gun, well made too, but not fancy like some of the pictures I've seen. I was really looking to see if there were any other owners out there. Most all people talk of Thieme/Schlegelmilch..not just Schlegelmilch. Never seen one for sale either. When I bought mine,(maker unknown) I bought it because it has a nice looking receiver. Reminded me of a 16 ga. Ainsley Fox I have.
