I was in Memphis, TN yesterday afternoon with my grandson after a morning of duck shooting across the river in Arkansas. We decided to spend some time looking around in the big Bass Pro Shops store in The Pyramid. I was not expecting to see a mini waterfowling museum by DU there. What a treat! There were big bore double waterfowl guns, both English and American made, from 10 bore up to 4 bore, and even a very large punt gun. Another fine exhibit there was a very large collection of old, rare duck calls, many handcrafted. It is a really nice little museum, and if anyone is in the Memphis area, and has a little time, this is a great way to spend an hour or two. It is upstairs in the big BPS store.
Then, go eat ribs at The Rendezvous restaurant across the street from the Peabody Hotel. If there is a wait it will be worth it. I promise.

The lovely mallards still come down the elevator and cross the Peabody lobby, Stan?

When one mentions mallards my immediate thought is to visualize big, bold plumaged green heads with two or three curlycues. Mr. Brown, perhaps you meant suzies?
Stan, thank you. I will put that in my bucket list should I ever be in Memphis.

Everyday for the last 50 something years the elevator comes down at 11 a.m., the door opens, and a bunch of mallards walk out on a red carpet and jump in a pool in the lobby of The Peabody. Each evening at precisely 5 p.m. they go back up to their "penthouse" on the roof, Duckingham Palace, via the elevator. Nice Southern tradition, with an interesting history. When I'm out there, however, the kind of mallards I like to see best are lying on their back in the muddy, brown water with their red/orange feet kicking the air. Then, next best, lying on their back on a platter, nicely browned with olive oil, salt and pepper. For your enjoyment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82svIC2fFS0 SRH

I worked for Bass Pro and just loved them. They are family owned and a quantum difference from Cabelas which is now a public corporation. At Bass Pro you feel like you belong to a big family that loves it's customers. Cabelas is like working for Target and everybody is afraid for their jobs. I was hoping to go back to Bass Pro but it looks like I'm going to be crippled and can't stand.

After the wreak every one was calling me the miracle man for surviving and I believed them. Only one guy said this was a life changing event and at the time and I could well end up crippled, but I thought I could beat anything. But now I got to realize that there is going to be somethings I won't be able to do again. I'm going to walk again but it's not going to be pretty, and no more operations.
