Once again, can't thank you all enough. You all will have me a double gun pro in no time. smile. Lots of great ideas and info. To imagine this gun was in the back of the store, and not even displayed for sale. Know of anyone to do restorations, please send me their contact. Merry Christmas to you all.

Having a smith do the restoration for you will turn your fantastic Christmas deal on a fine old gun into a money pit. Your 1st priority now will be to determine the market value on a Lindner hammer-gun in good restored condition. You are in it right, but you need to know the refinished value in order to determine your budget for having the required work done.

Next consideration is the barrels. We can't tell anything from the pictures, but they don't look too bad to me. Have them measured for minimum barrel thickness and forget the project if they are not .025 or more.

Next determine if the barrels are on face with the action. That's not usually a deal breaking expense, but if you don't get it fixed you'll damage the gun by shooting it.

The important portion of your left hammer is all there. The extension can be welded and filed to somewhat match the right one. That's a lot of hand work and will be expensive. Don't forget the budget!

Last is metal and wood restoration. That one will blow your budget, so don't go overboard. You are going to wear it out yourself so if you're not selling it, don't over restore...Geo

Thanks GEO...once again, great information. A lot to consider, and maybe just enjoy it the way it is, as a non-shooter and piece of history.

sjcope84, if it makes you feel any better to know, I have a Lindner lower grade hammerless. I am going through the same decision making process you are. The gun's on face and the barrels look like they've been cleaned up but not polished. They're damascus and need to be re-browned. The stock has been done and looks good, but will have to be cut down to fit me.

I want to finish the restoration, but I've determined the restoration expense vs. value won't stand up. I want to do it anyway...Geo

It's all about barrels. If the thinnest part of the barrel wall is greater then .025 you are in business. .027 is better. The thinnest wall thickness is around 9 inches from the muzzle If the barrels ring when struck that's better, most of the time. There is little you can't fix if you have good barrels. Use light loads.

Having a pro make these measurements is good advice.

Awesome...going to think about it. Just want to preserve it for future generations...a gun this old and well built needs to be passed down. Hopefully my children and grand children will be able to enjoy it also. Love the old guns, nothing better.

Where are you located? Chances are good someone here can recommend a doublegunsmith near you for a barrel evaluation. A nearby member possibly could even confirm that the gun is On Face, and many of us have wall thickness gauges.

Prussian Daly guns are special. A cut above other American classics, even if it isn't American except for the retailer. You are lucky to have one. What you do with it is your business. Even if you just hang it on the wall you are preserving something important...Geo

Even as-is, as long as the action is tight and the barrels pass muster, it's a great Vintage Shooter.
