Santa made an early Christmas delivery this evening.
Here are additional pics of the Wm. Sumner's hammergun, including the proof marks. The case is a period correct Sumners for breach loading gun #4306. I have attached pics of the labels.
The gun is totally restored with very little use since it restoration. It looks like an almost new gun and it closes like a vault. It has a double locking bite. The right hammer seems to be a replacement. It is nitro re-proved at 850 bars and what I think looks like 70mm chambers. I have no measured the bore thickness yet, but they look pretty stout at the business end. Gun weights 6lb 14oz. I don't have a trigger scale, but the front trigger pull is heavier than the rear trigger pull. Gun balances about an inch ahead of the pin. Your thoughts and comments are welcome. BillK

Hammegun, can you educate me and tell me how you can tell it passed proof in London in 2003?
I am also very excited that it came in a period case from the same gunmaker.
I have not been able to see many guns from this gunmaker (since the business closed some time in 1890s), let alone a case.

By the proof marks...I wouldn't subject it to modern pressure loads and expect it to stay on face.
