Trump nominated Ryan Zinke as the next Interior Secretary. Those of us who were worried what Trump's stance would be on transferring Federal public land to state control can rest easy. Zinke is adamantly opposed to such transfers. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/ener...rior-secretary/

I wish he would take an enlightened stance that hunting is a cultural tradition and those who wish to use period guns should be allowed to use period proper ammo. Those who use side by sides should be allowed to use lead shot for all hunting. After all there are so few of us afield that a few lead shot shells should make no difference. That would be a nice Christmas gift to all who own and use doubles.

When the dust settles down a bit next year, perhaps we could pull together a proper bill to permit this and submit it to him. He of course can't pass it but his approval before it's sent to Congress would certainly help.

NAFTA aside I don't care what people outside this country think about what is going on here. George Sorass can jump into the oceans as well
We could propose a special lead use only in guns made pre 1950 tax stamp which would be good for five or ten years. Let the novelty wear off. See how many take advantage of the lead shot in doubles option and let the nay Sayers gather evidence to see if a ban is needed. I would gladly pay $250-500 for such a five to ten permit.

I would really appreciate using a very little bit of lead shot in places and on birds that I haven't been able to in quite some time. My thinking is careful what I wish for, down the road, my 'permit' will end up being a backdoor registration database.
