A bit off topic....Years ago I looked at and shouldered a RGS Remington premeir (english stock) o/u 20ga. for sale at a local gun shop. They wanted $1,800 cdn and I got them down to $1,600. But after careful consideration and looking more closely at the gun, it did not appear to be of the quality a $1,600 dollar gun should be. A lot of un polished machining marks etc, hidden by the black receiver finish. It also did not shoulder or balance very well. No magic wand thats for sure. Nothing really special other than the RGS connection.

Life is too short to have a 'hate on' for so many things or people. Isn't it?

RGS has used various makers over the years for special runs of guns. Don't recall the details, but I picked up a Garbi 20ga boxlock, used, for our RGS chapter as a sponsor raffle gun. I also recall that there was a special run of RGS doubles, 20ga again, that were Uggie 75EX sidelocks. Larry, I seem to recall that RGS also had a special run of some Kimber Valier sidelocks (Turkey) available as banquet/sponsor guns, maybe 15 years ago. The didn't do well in the US marketplace and were gone soon thereafter. RGS sold them off at a pretty hefty discount, if I remember correctly. NB Correct on all counts. The Valiers were not a success as banquet guns.

Larry? ..didn't you review the Valier at a SHOT show? I think we talked about that..I had a pre release gun which I thought had potential but never quite got there....Did not think they ever made a RGS thingy

Nope. Never reviewed a Valier. Handled a few, but never shot one. I don't know how good they were, but it was a case of bad marketing. At the time they came out, Turkish guns at the cheap end of the sxs market were just starting to be accepted as decent guns in this country. All of a sudden, here's a Turkish sidelock that cost more than some Spanish sidelocks from makers that already had a solid reputation.
And I wasn't precisely correct when I agreed with Natty that RGS had a "special run" of Valiers done. What they did was buy up a bunch of Valiers and offer them to the chapters as banquet guns. Unlike the other guns we've discussed, I don't believe those guns were marked RGS.

It does. Mystery solved. They looked and said it was faint but there. Thank you very much, if you ever come to Wisconsin stop by the farm, lunch is on me. Although today would probably not be a good day for that, as we just got 8" of snow and the wind is tossing it around pretty good. Thanks again.

The shotgun is a straight stock, double trigger, 3" 20, case color receiver. It is in 90% condition. It was made in the 1980's by Zabala Hermanos in Spain, it is marked as an American Arms York . It is marked for the Ruffed Grouse Society on the barrel. I am having trouble finding guns like this that have sold to establish a price. I would like to buy the gun, the owner says whatever I think is fair will be fine. I want to offer a fair price. Any thoughts on where I can check for value?

American Arms York 20 gauge in Google will come up with prices right away. Standard Catalog of Firearms $750 NIB Cabela's Gun Library $799 The crucial question is how much you like it.

I think $600 is a fair price that is what I will offer. If they think they need more I will list it for them and see what happens.
