I agree- and one reason I like Applebee's for Veteran's Day free dinners for Vets- they don't ask for DD-214 or current military ID--they accept you at your word. Last Winter, my son-in-law (we'll be watching the Notre Dame game together with some of his golf buddies tomorrow (Sat 19th. at Brann's Sports Bar in Grand Rapids) went downtown to see a Griffins hockey game- then went to a area good Irish bar and restaurant- had huge reubens, a few cold ones, and left with two "doggy bags"- Unfortunately, that area a is also a site for homeless men- near the Mel Trotter Mission- as we walked safely back to his car, we passed two homeless men in a doorway- "There but for the grace of God"-- I, out of habit I guess, as my son-in-laws never served in the Military- "Are you a Vet-?" The one replied- yes, are you? "Yes, USMC--- "Semper Fi" was the reply and we gave them the doggy bags with the still warm reubens and french fries". But, now that I look back on it 10 months later, I'd have done it without the "are you a Vet?' query- just that so many Vets are homeless-
