I use to have a setup much like that but I used steel conduit and an old antenna on top of it. Placed a 12x12 plywood plate on the ground, has a bolt which stuck up 6" through the plate which the conduit fit over. Had three guide wires coming off the top to stabilize the rig. Placed six decoys on the antenna. Rig was over 20' long so it stood out in the field.

Favorite way to use it was along a hedge row. Find a low area and set it up. You could either shoot the birds as they approached or let them land and build up numbers. Then they would fly into the field and the fun could begin. I liked pass shooting them as they flew towards the decoys. Setup about 30 yards on either side of the rig. Good pass shooting is my favorite.
