Exactly- why paint or stain it when the elements will weather it naturally in short order. There is a fair bit of aromatic cedar around, and used decades ago on the property for fence posts. Seemed appropriate to utilize these long lasting dead branches for the Mojo tree, and all I wanted were within 20 or 30 ft. of the base.
