Ken, Great job. What strikes me as one of the most pleasing aspects of this work is the contrast. That gives so much dimension to the work. Few engraved frames I've seen carry this off so well. Please don't tell me there is a case color treatment scheduled???? Randy

Doug Hey now...that was a joint venture. I came up with the "Road Kill" motif. ;-)

Hey Mr's. Randy and doubbletrubble, Yes the frame will be color cased ------ But after it is returned to me, I will do the following. I will set a weak solution of toilet bowl cleaner in my shop window along with the color cased parts to be warmed by the sun. Nest, I'll compact a fluffy 0000 steel wool pad into a dense pad which I'll use along with the cleaner to remove rhe color from the frame. You do this by briskly rubbing the matel with a damp pad (T.B. cleaner) to gently remove color. By doing it this way, the color comes off the surface but not out of the engraved cuts. This will leave you with a clean surface but cuts that stand out. Final step is to spread a thin coat of real dirt crank case oil from a diesel engine. Something about it alows the steel to take on a slightly grey cast as in aged --- but I still have a cased frame.
For the rest of y'all, you got to know if the road kill is fresh enough we Carolinians will first BBQ it before copying the critter on steel. Might even marinate it first in some of that oil for flavor.

I can't believe I actually found a picture of what I descibed before! I guess the road painting crew was not the same as the road kill crew! That's gonna leave a mark!

I particularly like your treatment of the back of the side plate! That is a wonderfully elegant motif, and at first almost slips by the eye.
I only hope that it proves as effective on those 'water turkeys' for you as it is beautiful. That gun when finished and it's siblings should make for some serious Baker lust.
Curiosity on my part, but what chokes and bbl length are in mind for the finished gun?
