16 days of fun and frolic ends today. Up at 2:30AM to catch a flight home tomorrow. Grousmas is over for another year. I'm either depressed or hung-over (both)?

Was really good to see you again, Lloyd. You are one of my few hunting partners, and perhaps the one I have the most in common with.

Have a safe trip home.

Best,
Ted

Did you take that English boxlock that I droll over every time I see a picture of it?

He did. And I had a 20 gauge Darne, and farted in his general direction every chance I got....

Best,
Ted

An English boxlock (a William Richards, right?) and a 20 gauge Darne, you talk about grouse guns.

We were perhaps a week early. There was plenty of green foliage, and plenty of birds. Louise, the 2 year old setter that had been deathly ill for most of her first year, became aquainted with ruffed grouse, pointed a few, bumped a couple, but, was well in range and under control, most of the time. She is coming along, but, much more remains to be done, including a lot of work on retrieve-she is not a natural, unfortunately. We got a lot of practice on hand signals, back and forth across the logging roads, and she has that mostly mastered. She understands "whoa" and is not gunshy. It was a bit too hot for excellent dog work in the afternoons. I want to get her on a few more grouse before the completely different game that is pheasant hunting begins. But, I'm OK with where we are.
I had a first year 20 gauge model 1912 WInchester along, that has new wood, new blue, 25" barrel with the full choke opened to loose modified, and a big button lefty safety installed, but it only came out of the case long enough for Lloyd to look at it. The Darne 20 is my date in that place, at that time.
I had a great time. I'm lucky to have friends like Lloyd.

Best,
Ted

Farting in the general direction. Sounds like the goofy bowling video with the naughty elves we used to get on one of the game networks. Not the underwear gnomes of South Park that plagued "Butters" and his dresser drawer full of skivvies. Too hot here in MI for grouse, woodcock, even squirrels- green all over lower MI- but that will change. Treasure your hunting pals while and when you have them, mine have all died or given up bird/waterfowl hunting-

Fox, it's a humourous reference to a Monty Python skit from the early 1970's.

A Frenchman insults a English guy by saying "I fart in your general direction".

The humour comes from three areas; the general distaste that exists between the French and the English, the very bad french accent the English comedian John Cleese used when saying the line and the inherent wimpiness of the French insult, confirming for the English audience how useless the French are.

Lloyd and Ted, glad to hear it was a good time. Too bad the green was still so thick. You never know with the weather in that part of the country. My dad and brother closed the cottage on the 2cd, I think. 75 degrees. My dad had been worried about frost and the water pipes. LOL
