skeetx,
Thanks for your interest.
This is an open house to showcase our club and to interest new shooters. No shooting events are planned other than demonstrations, instruction for new shooters and casual shooting. Thanks to the help from the NRA Foundation the club will be able to defray part of the cost. As a club we have have great interest in new shooters to build a foundation for the future of the sport and the sustainment of what we think is a great club. If this is a success I would suspect things to be added to it in the future.
As to someone from out of state purchasing guns or ammo in Illinois, I'm sure you are aware of the less than straightforward laws we are burdened with. Because of that baggage a lot of dealers and sports stores in northern Illinois (close to Chicago) will not sell ammunition to someone out of state even thought there is no expressed prohibition. They just fear that some legal action will be taken against them. This is often not the case once you get well away from the Chicago area.
As for buying guns, I will defer to a dealer who holds an FFL as a better authority. I know that many guns are sold annually at Sparta during the Grand, so there must be some legal process.
Transportation of guns and ammo is much clearer. Guns need to be "encased" and unloaded if you do not have a CCL. Out of state CCLs are not recognized in Illinois. It seems a case can be as little as a paper bag. The case does not need to be secured or locked.
Thanks again for you question.
