Just joined the board and thought I'd pop in to say howdy and share a project pic. I love old side by side doubles, especially really old as in flintlock side by side doubles. My passion and hobby is scratch building double flints. This is my latest finished project.



There's another one in the making and if anyone is interested I can post pics of it as the project progresses.

Is that the Durrs Egg Style Lock with the roller Frizzen that you are using? Very nice work.

that looks awesom man!..I'm pretty weak on this type of Gun,so when you say from Scratch, you mean you made the action, locks,hammers....what about the bbls?...

Beautiful piece of wood and flat checkering.

Thank you one and all for your feedback and compliments. I hope to answer everyone's questions: Everything was scratch built except for the locks and barrels. The "Hawken" (late English) locks are from L&R and the 12 bore barrels are Belgium made Damascus having proof marks dating them prior to 1893. The stock was carved from a beautiful slab of American black walnut harvested in Oregon. Hand cut classic pattern checkering was added to the wrist spaced nine lines to the inch. Here's a few more pics:







Faux case hardened coloring was applied to the breech plugs, false breech and lock plates then patinated to represent roughly 80% remaining color. My own formula old time slow rust blue colors the butt plate. This work lacks the final touch of engraving but will be fully engraved hopefully by this time next year. It's a fine shooter and I plan to break bunches of clay birds with it.
