What's he looking for? Target loads? Game loads? If the latter, what birds will he be shooting?
For target loads, like skeet, light 3/4 oz is the way to go. 7/8, I've had good luck with the RST's on birds up to prairie grouse (sharptails and chickens) in size, early season. But I usually pack along a box of Kent Gamebore Traditional Game loads in case the shots are longer. Those are 2 1/2" shells rated for 3 ton/1 oz proof guns. With British 6's (slightly larger than US 7's), they'll handle pheasants out to the 30-35 yard range.
