Sounds like someone lengthened the chambers so they could shoot 2 3/4" shells.
Have you emailed Holland and asked for any records on the gun? That may shed some light. If barrels were added in 1976 I would have thought it would be 2 3/4" chambers.
None the less, it would only be an issue if you decide to sell and the person buying makes an issue out of it.
By the way, are you sure they measure 2 3/4"? I have a Purdey and a Boss that was made for the American market in the 20's and they were chambered 2 5/8". That way the English thought they could satisfy everybody.
