c. 1925 Crescent Fire Arms Genuine Armory Steel with LLH mark was Rephosphorized AISI 1040 Low Alloy Carbon Steel with a tensile strength of 104,000 psi

Industry standard for AISI Chrome Moly 4140 is 95,000 - 100,000 psi

In brief, I wouldn't think that. A discussion with a friend the other day turned to the safety of shooting antique firearms. He (correctly) pointed out that an antique firearm can't simply be fired without inspecting it for safety issues, and that some guns have been lost to pitting and corrosion related weakness. I wanted to pose the question and see if I was missing anything, because I would really like to shoot some antique doubles of varying calibers at the loads they were originally designed to shoot. smile

One point with plastic shotcups is that in some rougher bores plastic deposits can be left adhering to the barrel wall and for which moisture can get behind and cause issues. A good reason to always give the barrels a good scrub with a phosphor bronze brush after use. I use felt wadded cartridges for the majority of my shooting and always give a good clean to prevent leading; some guns being more prone than others. Lagopus.....
