I see "16 Ga. 2 3/4" Nitro Proof Tested"
"(unintellidgeable)By E.A. Lander Alexandria, (maybe N.H.)
Nice stamps, btw. I wasn't aware that there was a proof house run by E.A. Lander. Another Fox mangled by the Mengela of guns?

Do you think we should set up a sting on old Ed and get him into court before he hurts someone? Now that he is professing to certify proofing of firearms he has taken his nonsense to a whole new level.

Guy's, I know that Ed Landers get's bashed here a lot for his torch job's. He is credited by Ed Good "ED-1" as the master gunsmith that did the restoration work and there fore has been labled the butcher of doubles.
For a while there were quite a few N.O.S. Fox barrels set's floating around. Ed Landers has been in the gunsmithing business a long time. Over the years he has fit and finished many of these set's either as replacements or as extra barrels set's.
I've seen a few of these that IMO were finished and fit well. Every one I've seen has had this stamp on them. I question if he actually proofed them but by placeing his stamp on them was saying that he would stand behind them. I imagine that when he was doing this it was a different time in America, before the attorney's and politicians started hammering away at the gun business.
I'm not defending his work with a torch, but I would be willing to wager he has repaired more guns than he has ruined!

dogon: Don Kass who doesn't stop by now said something very similar about Landers. "And one man in his lifetime plays many roles."
