Sometimes you just have to wonder about people and guns. I am watching two 12 doubles. One is a Remington 1900 steel barrel double in real decent condition, call it a 80% gun, dealer 90+%. The other is a crescent 12 in roughly the same shape, maybe a little less. Both on a auction and the Crescent is bringing twice the Remington price. Be interesting to see final outcome between a hardware gun ant the Remington.
I know few people have handled or seen many Remington's but the difference in quality is very plain for all to see. I can't decide if the Crescent interest is to have a hardware gun like grandfathers or just more people know crescent brand name on doubles than Remington. I have noticed on Gunbroker that few Remington 1894 or 1900 bring much money. Maybe I need to add them to my under apriciate do gun list. Shame people seem to like the higher grades because some of the 1894s are very good looking.

Just pick one up and shoulder it and you would buy the Remington over practically all others American shotguns. I believe they used the English Anson and Deeley rocking cocking block.

I don't claim a lot of experience here but over time I have shot and handled store grade examples of both these shotguns. IMO I'd say the Remington is the superior gun hands down. Jim

They're not even in the same league!!! The Crescent in Pony league baseball while the Remington is firmly in the Majors.

The Remington has it all over the Crescent. Just an underappreciated gun.

I own eight Remingtons, a 82, 89, and five 94s. Also Parkers and Lefevers and will take the Remingtons over any American made SxS. The high end Parkers are nicer, but for the money you'd have trouble beating the Remington. The action is very simple like a Ithica, not much to break and easy to work on. Most of their guns were made for the working man, not the rich.

I would much prefer the Remington. The only one I own right now is a very good 1889. It is as solid a hammer gun as I have ever seen for it's age. They're built very strong, and handle pretty good, but I can't go as far as Paul, in saying I prefer a Remington over a Fox "Filly". They lack the beauty, grace and handling of an early Fox, IMO. But, I much prefer the Remmie to a Crescent.
All my best, SRH

I have 3 Remington hammerless, 2 1894 BE's and a 1900. Very nice guns, very nice quality, dirt cheap. I'd buy more but they don't come up often. Only about 42,000 1894's made. Very small numbers of the higher grades.

I would take a Remington over a Crescent, but A good Lefever over the Remington any day of the week. Of course that's why Baskins & Robbins makes Chocolate & Vanilla & 29 other flavors. The Aesthetics of a square back, cigar box framed boxlock have just never floated my boat though.
