Who are some modern hammer gun mfgrs? I'm asking as the other BBS had some negative feedback on SIACE guns. I was rather surprised as I was strongly looking into them.

I'm looking for guns with options such as 2.75" chambers, ejectors, back action locks, top tang safeties, top/side lever openers and possibly self cocking mechanisms. Basically, nearly a "modern" gun but with hammers.

Gun would be used for upland hunting and clays on the odd weekend so it would need to stand up to some shooting. I understand the advantage of vintage guns (and own a few). For now I'm just researching w/ option to buy.

Thanks
Dan

Armi Fratelli Poli makes a good gun. You can find their info at the link above for Anglo American Sporting Agency.

The Bernardelli hammer guns are pretty well made and reasonable, compared to the ones listed above. Not made any longer but available used.

Thanks guys....
I'm going to be putting two boys thru college here shortly so I've got to watch what I'm putting down for the next few years. The big expenses will be for trips, not guns, as I've only got the boys around for a few years more. Payback in memories, is also greater with the trips. After college, the wife and I will be going it alone again.

Cost? I'm guessing as I don't know my options, but it needs to be a good gun. It needs to be a working hammer gun along the lines of SIACE guns.

I'd not heard of the Bernardelli guns.
Any feedback on FAMARS or AyA guns?

I did look at Tate guns, but understood they were SIACE actions/barrels hence they came in question. Any issues with them? Any other feedback on SIACE?

Thanks...

Tate uses Poli actions not Siace. Poli had some issues with the internals being a bit soft but according to Tate, he re-hardens and polishes them. A friend recently purchased one in 28 and we shot it a few weeks ago. It was a very nice gun, but one of the hammers was much stiffer then the other and kept piercing the primer so he had to send it back and Tate adjusted it. I think the gun cost around $14-15k, so they are a bit pricey. Very nice guns though.

I found one for you! I decided I have more guns than I need and I need a new truck. Take a look at my ad in the classifieds(here). Bernardelli Italia for sale.
Thanks

Gentlemen;

FWIW, Dale Tate is a Purdy trained Actioner. He has used SIACE actions and is now using Poli as well. I believe Anglo-American is the sole representative for Poli now. That relationship came about just earlier this year. Every action Dale works on is inspected and brought up to the standards of his training. The guns may start out from Italy, but they are much nicer when Dale gets through with them.

I have had the pleasure of seeing several this past year for close inspection. I had a two barrel SIACE hammer gun on display for the ACGG show this last year. That piece recieved good reviews about the craftsmanship of Dale's metalwork and Charles Lee's engraving work.
