The field that I've been invited to shoot at is sandwiched between a river on one side and a wooded ridge on the other. In the past the birds tend to reconnoiter earlier in the day, flying high from the river to the ridge, so I'll be armed with my Grade 3E Elsie 16 choked IM/F. Later, when the birds get serious about feeding I'll switch to my "laser beam"--- an OE 20 choked IC/M. Can't wait !!!!!

I have not decided yet but it will be a 16 or 20 gauge side by side or maybe a model 21 12 gauge skeet gun. Bobby

Most likely pull the AYA # 2 in 28ga, but I do like my little AYA #1 in 410. Decisions decisions decisions.

I think I'll be using my 1100 20-gauge on opening day, but before the first full week is out I'm sure that my 28-gauge 1100, 16-gauge model 12, and a new (to me) Victor Sarsqueta (sp? I just got it last week lol) will tag along as well!!! Plenty of shells to go around for them all, so why not use them?

First, welcome, JustinL!
Second, down here a 20ga. 1100 in one or another of its several iterations may well be one of THE most popular dove & bird guns of recent times. That they mimic a model 12 in hand was no accident.
Me? Any one of several 20's will get some time afield and get the job done efficiently and effectively w/7/8's oz. of shot. Perhaps a 16 w/a similar load, primarily because old wood can suffer from undue recoil & more shot than that isn't really necessary. For those who swear by factory 20ga. 1oz. lead ammo, it was all much SLOWER than the 7/8's oz. loadings until very recently & much of it still is. Just saying. Enough thread drift, eh?
Dove are a lot like skeet; not difficult to break, but very easy to miss.
Hope the coming season is productive, fun and above all, safe for all here. Please consider taking someone young afield as well, if you have the ability to do so.

Just checked on our 10 acres we planted for dove this year saw quite a few birds pitching in and across, I am sure from my post above, I'll be also pulling out my superpose and RBL 20s, I pretty much throw 7/8 oz loads in 7 1/2 AA,. The 28 ga the standard 3/4 oz AAs and the 410 11/16s of 6 or 71/2. Federals.
In about a week I'll be cutting and burning the field to keep it legal. failed to state it's primarily millet & sun flower
