Soon enough just isn't soon enough!
Though either way it seems my Lefever 16 ga E grade straight grip won't be back from the Smith in time. I guess I'll have to surprise myself that day.
I know what will be for dinner though.

Manufrance Ideal 16ga. Opening day will see barrel set 1, .000 and .007. Once I'm back in the groove, thinking about changing to the Boston Strangler choked original barrels and picking some more challenging shots. If it goes well I'll let you know. Otherwise..... smile

Has to be a .410, so either a Charles Daly, or Brittany, or Superposed, Win 42 or Rem 1100 ?? So have the SXS, O/U, Pump and Auto covered. Maybe I should buy a Marlin Lever???

They all set up such a howl on PICK ME, noooo Pick Me, Me First, Well you know the drill. And the languages you hear, Japanese, French, English, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, German, etc. sure sets up quite a din!

Mike

I've got 2 I'll be using. My dedicated Dove gun is my 16b D. Gotobed hammergun (with Jones Underlever), 30" damascus bbls, choked Skt, LtMod. And I'll try my new 28ga Dickinson SxS.

Good Luck to all and be safe!

Greg

If Skeettx invites me along opening day, I'll just shoot one of his .410's he doesn't use. I'll probably have to provide my own shells though.
Since I've been waiting 3 years for an invitation, it's likely I'll invade a nearby sunflower field with a Winchester 21 16 gauge with 28" IC&MOD barrels.
But, I have been thinking of going retro to the days when I was not yet a teenager and hunted with my Old Man and his cronies.
Red soda pop, vienna sausage, rattrap cheese, crackers and a moon pie in the ice chest for a field lunch, and a (GASP) restored Winchester model 12 16 gauge with 26" IC barrel.
The Old Man would approve.

I'm thinking about using my AOC/SG Uggie .410 for opening day. Seriously thinking about trying .410s for as many days as I can get out during the 15-day first season. All bets are off if it's windy or stormy, so my 20ga 686 Onyx will always be in the truck.

And the opening weekend menu will be Korean Fusion Bulgogi BBQ tacos. And beer. Lots of beer.

That was a great story you told us recently about that hunt. It is burned into my memory. May you get your 15 birds opening day with so few shells, as well.

Sorry to hear about your back condition. At 75, I have been blessed with steady good health and 20-20 Chuck Yeager vision. The German word for "taking joy at another's misfortune" is Schaudenfraud (sic) but I do not do that, in-spite of all the "sturm und drang" wehave shared, here and a few years ago, on the PGCA. I am sorry for your ailment, but you are wise in not pushing things. Best to "know your limitations" as Clint Eastwood once so wisely said.

I'll be hunting in nearby Indiana this coming Sept., as MI does not have a dove season. Going with my friend, a retired Judge who owns 3 A.H. Fox doubles- he'll take his AE 16. I'm taking my only Fox shotguns, a 1934 20 gauge Sterlingworth DT and with ejectors- and RST shells.

Good luck on the "coo-coo mourners" in MD-when in season of course. Fox with the runs--or, Fox on the run, perhaps??

Damn, that looks good Marks. smile

The only thing that would make that picture better is a bottle of good old Guinness Extra Stout.
