Altrenatly remove the plug on the other side and leave the nose ends open as it is mainly cosmetic .
I'm sorry, but I heartily disagree. If a gunsmith told me this I would never darken his door again.
Shaving and getting haircuts are mainly cosmetic, too. And actually, I disagree that the keels are "mainly cosmetic". They keep a lot of moisture out that would potentially cause oxidation and eventual damage. It's takes enough tedium to keep up an old double without "creating" a space 26 to 32 inches long for crap to get started in.
