World War 2 was a lot more serious than to be summed up by the statement, 'Wasn't for us Yanks."
Both FDR and Churchill and to a lesser extent Stalin knew what the Germans were doing and developing and all were convinced that the future of the planet was involved and not just individual countries. Real scary stuff. Please stop watching episodes of "Band of Brothers" and read a frickin book.
Thank you Treblig.
The world cries out for such: he is needed & needed badly- the man who can carry a message to Garcia
I see no reason to complain. If one is white born into middle, upper middle or wealthy family anything is possible. America is a great place to live I'm fortunate to be here.

We need to thank US Air force, US industrial might, England surviving being the launching pad and Soviet soldier willing to be "sand bag" while yelling 'Hurrrrah'......
The book is a no-go. I'm literate. That means I can't read. I did pick up a copy of 'I'm Kamp' once but there were no pictures so I chucked it.
I guess you're right that "wasn't for us Yanks" is a bit over the top. I should have said "us Yanks and Canucks". I don't need King jumping down my throat.
You think Jim is going to join the revolution, or just hang back at the pool in Scotsdale watching episodes of Band of Brothers?
Hope the Duck's Purdey gets here soon. I don't want to lug some clunky old Parker around.
______________________________ Look up tongue in cheek. I like the American Heritage Dictionary, but if all you have is the Oxford I suppose that will do.

I know you read extensively CB, and the more I read about those German scientists the more I shake my head thinking, "My God, how close we came."
I think the German invasion was stopped by the Battle of Britain and the fact that we still maintained a powerful navy which would have made a channel crossing difficult even if they did get air superiority. If Britain had have been knocked out then who knows the outcome. The U.S. would have been a 'no show' and Russia would have had to bear the entire fight across Europe and they would then have formed a Communist Dictatorship across Europe; if they had won. When the U.S. eventually got involved the 8th. Air Force did a magnificent job helping to keep up round the clock bombing as at that time it was the only way we could take the fight to the enemy. They took a helluva pounding in the early days and their sacrifice doesn't go unnoticed. A good effort all round I say! Lagopus.....
Russia got some of those German scientists and the US put von Braun to work immediately building rockets for its space program in Huntsville, Ala. Canadian heads of engineering for the Command module and Lunar lander were hired by NASA's Bob Gilruth after our CF-105 jet fighter program was abandoned. The US wouldn't buy it although Gilruth, then head of Manned Spacecraft Centre south of Houston, told me that---at that time---it was the best fighter in the world. I mention it because, in war and space etc, successful outcomes are mostly from collaborations of talents and sacrifices.
