With the main body of the stock finished to 100 grit I started on the butt plate, just another piece of birch with the grain running vertically. I traced the outline of the butt onto the wood, and cut it out with the rasp and chisel, I achieved the final fit by screwing it to the gun, and sanding outwards with the stock. The contour was done by eye.
