Any opinions on the Franchi Aspire? My local shop has a 28 ga, 28" barrels, new in the box for about $1,200. I don't really need another 28 ga, but that strikes me as a pretty good price for a gun that sold for close to 2 grand before Franchi discontinued them.

No one? I guess I'll just go buy it and shoot it and see how it works out. Should be perfect for doves come Sept. 1st.

I have owned two Franchi pre-Beretta over-and-unders.
One, a 20 and 28 gauge two barrel, was very well made and very light. As I recall it had an aluminum recevier with a steel insert at the the breechwalls and bearing points. The other was a 12 gauge, also with an aluminum receiver and steel inserts. Both were light for their gauge and I didn't have any problems with them. I sold the 20/28 gauge set to a friend and he has been pleased with it.
I also owned two Franchi semiauto 28 gauges, AL48s. They were well made and dependable, if cleaned correctly.
I think highly of the pre-Beretta Franchis. I have never owned the Aspire or any of the guns made after Beretta bought Franchi. I also hold Beretta in high esteem.
Best,
Mike
Edit: As I remember both guns were the Veloce model.
I am glad to be here.

My wife had problems with the post Beretta/Benelli AL48s in 20 and 28 . Returned them. Dealer stopped carrying them.
Lots of old friends shoot grouse and w/c upland with a 12 bore Franchi Falconet exclusively. The kill birds.
Reminds one of the 28 gauge Weatherby semi-auto that was pronounce "Gun of the Year" (2014?) by a coffee table gris magazine and perhaps others. Discontinued - nobody could get one to work.
